Our Tax Dollars at Work

I usually don't comment on the Quote of the Day, I usually like for it to stand for itself. However I felt I should interject on this one and say: Re-read this quote and remember that this quote is from an icon to the left. How soon they forget the ideals of their own.

Gun Control Loopholes: From the Left's Point of View

You're right on one point at least. The most effective executive powers do not derive from statutes at all, they derive from the people. Remember that pesky "We the People" part of the Constitution?

Really, where is your proof that gun manufacturers sell to criminals? Show me a bill of sale directly from a gun manufacturer to a known criminal. And I don't mean some private business owner that did not fill out or file a 4473 improperly, or one who was wrangled on a minor technicality by the BATFE.

Uh-Oh! You just let the cat out of the bag didn't you? Couldn't you have just said: If we can't get our way via legislation and with the consent of the people. We will just become tyrants and do as we please.

Now a few questions for you ex-Gov Spitzer and whoever you are Peter Pope. I guess that the soaring profits by both Smith & Wesson and Sturm, Ruger & Co. are not due to government buying up their supplies yet, is that correct? Hmmm, you mean private citizens are causing those increased profits? I am sure the government could waste more tax payer dollars to prove whatever it wants to prove though, right?

Also does this mean that the government shouldn't buy from itself? Here is a list of FBI agents who committed violent or criminal acts. So can the government still buy from these companies but not arm the FBI with those weapons?

Don't get me wrong I know that there is just a small percentage of law enforcement officers that are criminals. But just as that is the case the same is true of society in general. The vast majority of people are not criminals, it just takes a few bad apples to give them a bad name. So you are for punishing the many because of the actions of a few?

Some Thoughts on the 2nd Amendment

In studying the 2^nd Amendment and the history behind it, I as a pro-gun advocate have noticed several things, most of these have already been expounded upon in detail by other’s that support gun rights. I will merely mention them here as a background for this piece. The first one being that the people of the 2^nd Amendment are the same people as are referred to under the 1^st, 4^th, 5^th, 9^th, and 10^th Amendments. Each of these other amendments have been upheld by courts to apply to individual citizens. That means the 2^nd Amendment is not solely for the arming of an army and/or National Guard force(s).

Secondly the Constitution was written in plain English (for the day) and would have been meant to have been easily understood by the vast majority of colonists to whom it would have applied. In fact the Constitution was not only circulated to large cities, but also to smaller hamlets/towns/settlements so that the colonists could read (or have it read) and discuss whether to approve it or not. Let us also not forget that at this point and time a sizeable portion of the population had at least one firearm in their homes to supply food, and aid in the town/settlements defense (remember, Indian attacks were very common at this time). Hunting at this time was not a “sport”, but rather a way of survival for a large part of the population.

From here you should have gotten the general idea, but I have one other point that is very rarely mentioned, or even brought up. We have all heard by now about the militia of the day and how each and every able bodied man was expected to take parts in the routine drills/exercises enough to be familiar with how a group of men fought as a group (at least in the military philosophies of the day). Each man was expected to provide his own weapon, but if he could not then one would be supplied for him.

Here is where things start to get interesting. What type of weapon do you think those that could supply their own brought along, a smooth-bore musket or a rifle? The vast majority showed up to these exercises with rifles, because the smooth-bore musket was not practical for everyday colonial life. The smooth-bore was the choice of the military because with large amounts of troops it was easier to reload and fire volleys than was the rifle. However, it was severely inaccurate as compared to the rifle. Hence a case could be made that the rifle in a way was far superior to the smooth-bore that was in common military usage. Therefore the founders by their wording of the 2^nd Amendment intended for the people to be able to arm themselves with firearms superior to those of the modern military, at least as far as accuracy is concerned.

More Hoplophobia

Hoplophobia: A term coined by Jeff Cooper to describe someone who has an irrational fear of firearms.

"An apparent organized flexing of Second Amendment rights last weekend was a bit too Wild West for some local citizens and business owners.

Police and deputies responded to a number of complaints about citizens packing sidearms at restaurants, stores and other public areas.

None of the gun carriers was cited." [link]

Notice once again the gun-grabber use of the "Wild West" fallacy. It is interesting to note that several people were approached by the police in several different areas, and guess what? Not one of them was a criminal or doing anything against the law. Even more surprising was not one of these law abiding gun owners later that day turned criminal and hurt anyone with their firearm. A bit later in the article we get this wonderful bit of "wisdom":

"Stellingworth and Undersheriff Thomas Finco said that citizens who exercise the right to carry guns openly should realize it alarms the public and police."

You know what, it doesn't matter! It alarms gun owners when others try to infringe on our rights. It alarms Americans when we hear report after report of police officers acting like criminals (see all these reports by David Codrea). It alarms the public when we, as American citizens are labeled as potential terrorists (MIAC, DHS Report, Virginia Police Report).

Certain people need to understand those that support personal responsibility, the United States Constitution, freedom, and liberty, are rarely those that you need to be afraid of, or alarmed about. If you want to know who to be alarmed about try turning on the T.V. and see what Congress is up to, pick up a newspaper and see what your elected officials are doing. Leave those of us that mind our own business and live our lives as we see fit alone.

Innocent Life Saved With Firearm

"A 42-year-old Midlothian man was fatally shot in self-defense Friday night, Arlington police said.

Rodney Kennedy was in his ex-wife's home when he was shot by his former father-in-law, 67, police said. The shooting happened at 10 p.m. during an altercation, according to reports." [link]

Purely conjecture, but based on past instances of events like these the man probably had a restraining order against him, broke or attempted to break in, was confronted by ex father-in-law and was shot. This could very well have ended badly if the woman would have been home alone with no firearm for protection. Like I said purely conjecture, but you can look to the past to see how these usually turn out.

Forget That Pepper Spray, Pack the Pistol

Translation: Listen to what millions of law abiding gun owners have been saying for years. There is no substitute for a firearm. If you truly want to protect you and yours, you must be willing to learn, practice, and carry a firearm, there is not substitute. As Col. Jeff Cooper said: ""Fight back! Whenever you are offered violence, fight back! The aggressor does not fear the law, so he must be taught to fear you. Whatever the risk, and at whatever the cost, fight back!"

Guess They Missed This One, Or Where Was This Government Memo

"An end-of-year college block party spiraled out of control as police fired pellets and used pepper spray to break up hundreds of rioting students who sparked a string of street fires at Kent State University.

Video posted on the Internet shows students hurling furniture and street signs into the flames on Saturday night as a SWAT team in riot gear converged on the crowd. Kent police said the party grew violent after one reveler was arrested and students began pelting officers with bottles, bricks and rocks." [link]

In the age of the government memo's that is labeling everyone they can name as an extremist, where was the memo on this. This type of behavior is extremist and not just spur of the moment. Why didn't the government know about the extremism here.

Another MIAC Style Report

"A new report produced by a branch of the Virginia State Police portrays the state's colleges and universities as potential breeding grounds for terrorism.
The 200-page report, intended for distribution to law enforcement, intelligence and military organizations, says "a wide variety of terror or extremist groups" have links to Hampton Roads and singles out the area's two historically black universities for special mention." [link]

Well so far these "fusion centers" have labeled whites, blacks, conservatives, veterans, educated, uneducated...ah hell, who haven't they labeled? Why doesn't the government just come out and say we're scared to death of just about everyone in America because we realize we have been doing them wrong for so long and are now afraid it is almost time to pay the piper.

Another Campus Shooting

"A spokeswoman for Hampton University in Virginia says shots were fired in a dormitory and three people were taken to a hospital with injuries...The school remains on lockdown while police investigate." [link]

For the life of my I have never been able to understand the logic of lockdown's. If there is still a shooter in the vicinity the last place I would want to be would be in the same area.

Someone is Full of It!

Happy Debt Day!

"The symbolic "holiday," which falls on Sunday, marks the point in the fiscal year when government spending exceeds revenue.

In other words, the government will stop making money and start borrowing on Sunday.

And it's coming earlier than ever, according to House Minority Leader John Boehner, who's pointing to Debt Day as yet another symptom of a government he says is spending too much, borrowing too much and taxing too much. Last year's Debt Day fell more than three months later, on Aug. 5.

"All the revenue for this fiscal year will be spent as of Sunday," Boehner, R-Ohio, said. With the fiscal year ending Sept. 30, he said, "everything that happens after Sunday through ... the balance of this fiscal year is going to have to be borrowed from our kids and grandkids." [link]

Isn't it nice to know that because of an out of control government every child that will born from this point forward will be "indebted" to the tune of between $30-$50K (dependent upon sources). Stop and think about that for just a moment. Each and every child born, in order to payoff government debt effectively is born owing the U.S. Government $30-$50K dollars. Good thing we live in the land of the free isn't it?

Spend it Like You Got it O!

So everything is still broke, money has been created out of thin air, the size of the federal government has doubled in size in less than 100 days, and all this is supposed to be good and bring about "change" and "hope".

Obama Legal Team Wants to Limit Defendents Rights

"The Obama administration is asking the Supreme Court to overrule long-standing law that stops police from initiating questions unless a defendant's lawyer is present, another stark example of the White House seeking to limit rather than expand rights.

The Justice Department, in a brief signed by Solicitor General Elena Kagan, said the 1986 decision "serves no real purpose" and offers only "meager benefits." The government said defendants who don't wish to talk to police don't have to and that officers must respect that decision. But it said there is no reason a defendant who wants to should not be able to respond to officers' questions." [link]

That's nice let's just kick off a bigger Police State Party. Let us not forget some of the wonderful insights into how much the "Only Ones" will actually respect a decision of someone not to talk and other travesties they will attempt to pull off because they feel they can hide behind a shield.

Barney Frank: Enemy of Total Freedom

“I would let people gamble on the Internet,” Frank said. “I would let adults smoke marijuana; I would let adults do a lot of things, if they choose."

He added: “But allowing them total freedom to take on economic obligations that spill over into the broader society? The individual is not the only one impacted here, when bad decisions get made in the economic sphere, it causes problems.” [link]

Interesting how he can allow some freedoms and not others. Freedom is not as easy as pick and choose Barney Rubble. Freedom also comes with responsibility, you make a bad choice your likely to get bit on the ass by it later on. Prime example was forcing banks to make loans in all areas where they operate. Forget about low-income families living in these areas, just force the banks to make the loans then swallow the losses. That is what has gotten us in this mess.

In the past a family, individual, whatever goes in for a loan and the bank would pretty much know if they could make payments or not. If you could wonderful sign by the X and give us $XXXXX each month. If you couldn't sorry, "You need a larger down payment." Or, "You may want to think about something more in your price range."

Freedom works by guiding individuals to make choices that are best for them, because they will get rewards from good choices, and quite the opposite from poor choices. Yes, in a way poor decisions have got us into this trouble, however in the past these decisions would not have been allowed to take place to start with.

One Hurdle Overcome in Wisconsin

You are so correct Heir Doyle a hunting rifle during hunting season is a tool to harvest game. A gun on your hip in Milwaukee is a tool to protect your life and the lives of your family. I can see which one would hold the most importance for you. Oh, but I am sure you have an armed security detail with you don't you?

Excellent news here. Wisconsin is one of only two states (Illinois being the other) that do not allow concealed carry. Good to see that at least those that wish to protect themselves at least have an option now. Could be better, but you take what you can get, when you can get it. Just keep up the fight and keep pushing for concealed carry in Wisconsin.

Amerikan and Chinese Education Join Forces

Let me see if I understand this correctly? The government gives taxpayer money to organizations that have grossly mismanaged money and have not been able to earn a profit and are on the verge of going bankrupt. In return these same companies turn around and give some of the money to federal lobby's in order to secure even more money. Makes you wonder how much taxpayer money these scum have also contributed to scum in suits known as "Congressional Members"?

More Reports on the FBI and Domestic Spying

We have already looked at one case where the FBI were spying on law abiding citizens. Now we have another.

"Two FBI workers are accused of using surveillance equipment to spy on teenage girls as they undressed and tried on prom gowns at a charity event at a West Virginia mall.

The FBI employees have been charged with conspiracy and committing criminal invasion of privacy. They were working in an FBI satellite control room at the mall when they positioned a camera on temporary changing rooms and zoomed in for at least 90 minutes on girls dressing for the Cinderella Project fashion show, Marion County Prosecutor Pat Wilson said Monday." I wonder what these agents were looking for. Also wonder if any of these teenagers were underage. If so then we have a sex crime and will need to register these FBI agents into a centralized system...ran by the FBI. Hmmm, wonder how this will end up turning out?

Do you think Obama actually think this $100 million ploy will work to appease the public. I am sure that for some it will. Step back and look at what this administration has already spent. This is not a challenge it is more like spitting in the faces of the American people.

Isn't that nice to know. And I am not just talking about Obama, Bush probably did more damage to the Constitution than Obama has done. But when will it end? When will the government that is supposed to be ran by the people, allow the people to do as they will so long as they do not infringe on the rights of others?

Supreme Court Judge Willing to Give Up U.S. Sovereignty?

Let's Waste More Taxpayer Money

Let's not even bother to mention that there is not a public transportation model in the United States ran by a government agency that makes a profit, not one. Amtrak does not and cannot make a profit, so why should we (taxpayers) sink more money into public transportation that will not be able to do what is promised.

Liberty Is a Bitter Pill

I have wrote before that liberty is not easy, and we all know that it is not free. However what a lot of people fail to realize is that liberty is also a bitter pill. A bitter pill, but not a toxic one. To truly embrace liberty, I must also be willing to allow the same types of liberty to others.

This often times means allowing others to act in a way that I find immoral, unethical, and personally reprehensible. However, as long as they do not violate my rights, or anyone else's rights then by all means allow them to do as they wish, it is their life, their conscience, and their soul.

Gun owners in particular, it has been said, don't care whether you personally decide to own a gun or not, if you decide not to, then do not infringe on the rights of those that choose to do so. That is your personal choice and you are free to make it, just don't try and force your beliefs on us.

Drug usage is the same way. Use what you want to, when you want to, how you want to, but your using had better not infringe on anyone else's rights. Get behind the wheel of a vehicle, you deserve what you get, if not worse. OD, don't expect my unlawfully gained tax dollars to pay for your lifesaving medications.

I could go on and on, but you get the picture. There are plenty of choices and lifestyles that I find wrong for many different reasons, but that does not give me the right to say that they are wrong and should be forbidden, banned, outlawed, etc...

Let each person choose their own way in life so long as it does not keep you from choosing yours. If whatever someone else chooses infringes on your rights, then you have the right to do something about it. If what someone chooses does not interfere with your rights but only enrages you morally, ethically, etc... then if you are a liberty lover you will allow them to do as they please, choose what label fits you best: socialist, fascist, hatemonger, etc... Just remember if you feel you are right in taking someone elses rights, then what stops someone else from taking yours. This is the difference between the bitter pill and the toxic pill.

An excellent example of citizens fighting back in any way that they can. Maybe If We Tell The Same Lie Often Enough...

What is the world coming to. Physicians are already regulated, registered, tested, etc...by the government and yet this still happens. I have already wrote about the dangers of physicians and health care professionals to any one's well being. They are in fact the 3rd leading cause of death in the United States. Evidently the registration is not working as intended, I guess for the sake of the children and the safety of all involved we should just ban this profession all together.

The Answer Lies in History

I have been following with careful attention the issue of piracy in Somalia and many other areas of the world recently. I was very interested in seeing how the Obama administration would handle this whole issue, and am sorry to see they have handled it like everything else, sorry. For a man that quoted the founding fathers during his train ride to the inauguration he had only to look at one of our founding fathers for a remedy to this piracy situation. Back when the nation was young, Thomas Jefferson faced a similar situation. However then as opposed to now the pirates Jefferson had to deal with were much better armed than the United States. Jefferson dealt swiftly with the pirates of the Barbary Coast, and sent a clear message that American ships would be left alone.

Skip That Doctors Appointment, Buy a Gun Instead

Ok, Mr. Wolkowitz, let's look at your "logic" in two parts. Part I: If there are 32 murders a day that comes to the unfortunate total of 11,680 people a year murdered by guns in the United States. Unfortunately murderers are criminals and by definition criminals will not follow the laws. They will find a way around any and all gun control regulations, as they do already. So that statistic is irrelevant.

Let's look at the the second part of your statement. Part II: I am assuming that by using the word "pulled" you mean banned, regulated, restricted, etc...such as you would like to see with firearms. Well we can look at other things that cause more than 11680 deaths per year in the United States and see how hard they are to come by.

Wait a minute, how about if I can show you something that is responsible for roughly 225,000 deaths per year, but when I pick up my phone book is far more prevalent than gun stores, firearms, or sporting goods in the yellow pages. How about physicians! Yes believe it or not physicians and the health care establishment as a whole are the third leading leading cause of death in the United States behind cancer and heart disease. Yet I can go see a doctor anytime I want to. How come they are still allowed to practice? Why aren't they being "pulled" by a government agency? Go spread your lies and your untruths elsewhere.

As for me, I have a cough and a sniffle, but for some reason I think I will head to the range now instead of the doctor...

The Police Will Protect You.

More on Canadian Gun Control

The other day I wrote a post about Canada looking at ending their long gun registry. We now have some more news from our neighbors to the north...

Selling Us off Piece by Piece

What would your reaction be if you went to any place of business or tried to get any type of service done, received an estimate on the cost of said service/item, and when the time came to pay there was a total price increase of more than 88 percent? How many of you would actually pay then?

Americans need to stop feeding the government with our hard work and labor if they continue to pull these types of tricks. Enough is enough. It is not right that my children, my grandchildren, my great-grandchildren, etc...will have to pay for the mistakes our government has made. Government spending must cease immediately.

Then What is the Purpose?

Does anyone not need to start asking the question, what is causing this rampage of shootings? Were there this many acts of massive violence when Bush was in office? Let me make it clear very quick, that I am in no way supporting Bush's presidency, he was just one in a long line of Constitution Shredders. However he was a bit more friendly to gun owners than Clinton was.

Dare I mention that it is possible that there might be something to furthering the gun-grabbers agenda involved in all of these sudden acts of violence. Maybe we should do well to remember the words of Obama's chief of staff: "You never want a serious crisis to go to waste," --Rahm Emanuel.

We Need to Keep an Eye on This

If the media likes to portray firearms as evil and how much they must be strictly regulated how about we also go after these horrible weapons of destruction.

In Reality, Nearly Ninety Percent of Mexican Cartel Weapons DON'T Come From U.S.

Imagine that, we have been lied to by the media. Can anyone figure out why the media would lie to us? For the past several weeks this has been a big news story, the media telling us how many guns from America are pouring across the border and into the hands of drug cartels. Wonder if/when the news outlets will issue a retraction and say "We're sorry we goofed, our numbers were incorrect." It really is not that hard to do, I have had to do it when I made a mistake. Why don't they?

Government Overseen Preventive Gunownership?

By now nearly everyone has heard of the plan to have all physicians, hospitals, clinics, etc... place all of their patients medical files into a central database so they can be "easily accessed by other providers". If we lived in a perfect world there would be no problem with this, it would allow quick access between doctors to a persons medical records, which could streamline a lot of processes. The main critics of this plan point out that the government itself would be the entity that would provide the "central hub" for all computerized medical records, thus allowing the government access to your own private medical records.

Now we have this coming up, "An influential government-appointed medical panel is urging doctors to routinely screen all American teens for depression -- a bold step that acknowledges that nearly 2 million teens are affected by this debilitating condition." [link]

What some of you may be aware of and some of you may not be aware of is the NICS Improvement Act of 2007 more commonly known as the Veterans Disarmament Act. What it does is allows for the barring of firearms ownership to anyone who is "adjudicated as a mental defective."... by a government psychologist or psychiatrist in the VA, Medicare, or the IDEA program. However, that would all change with the Veterans Disarmament Act, as it will CODIFY regulations that BATFE has issued." [link]

In other words the Law muddies the language quite a bit and leaves a lot to be interpreted. So it could be possible that all of these teenagers that may be screened for depression (a mental disorder), could later in life be barred from owning a firearm.

I know all of this is pure conjecture at this point, but would anything surprise you with the United States Government at this point. Look at all of the things that are going on and the liberties being taken from us now that our parents or grandparents would have laughed at 50 years ago. They would have said there is no way that will happen in America.

Well as safe as you can be I guess if you are not allowed to arm yourself for your own personal defense. But this is what these people want. They do not like personal liberties, personal responsibility, and an ability to fend for oneself. They prefer to have all the power over each and everyone of us. They don't care if that gets innocents killed, because they can always then blame someone or something else and "make things better".

Canada Looks at Ending Gun Control

Well it seems that our northern neighbors (at least a few of them) are starting to get it. Wonder how long it will take for the rest of America to understand as well.

Taxes: Because the Government Needs Money, and Can't Let You Become Wealthy

"President Obama's budget keeps the estate tax at its 2009 level, which means the government gets 45 percent of a dead person's estate valued over $3.5 million dollars or $7 million for a couple..."People who aren't wealthy, who may have built up value in land over generations and many family farms find themselves in situations where they've got to sell the farm in order the pay the taxes," said House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio..."The total repeal would have a substantial additional impact on revenues," said Rep. John Spratt, D-S.C. "And this is also a time when we need to -- we simply can't be profligate about tax cuts. And we think we struck a good balance." Yet Obama's own top economic advisor, Larry Summers, took an interesting position on the passage of wealth from one generation to the next. "The evidence presented indicates that intergenerational transfers account for the vast majority of aggregate U.S. capital formation," he wrote in a study that he co-authored in 1980." [link]

Well, there we have it, the two quotes in bold that gets it out in the open. One representative of the United States government has admitted clearly that taxes are to keep the government afloat and not for the good of the people, and another one says that taxes death taxes are a means to spread the wealth. Let that sink in for a bit, then go read the Declaration of Independence and see how our founding fathers thought about oppressive taxes, and what they did to handle the situation.

Gun Free Zones (Not Applicable to Criminals)

If Gun Free Zones are supposedly so "safe" how can you explain how these things happened within 1000 yards of a campus, or a so called "Gun Free Zone"?

Experience demonstrates that the law does not deter criminals from using firearms. The only known result of the "school safety zone" law is to make it known to predators in Atlanta that there are "easy pickings" in and around college campuses, since students, faculty, and law-abiding visitors scrupulously obey the "school safety zone" law and disarm." You would think by now everyone would begin to understand criminals don't care about what the law says. All you do is force a law abiding person to either give up their right to defend themselves, or force them to break the law by deciding it is in their best interest to be armed regardless of the law for their own protection.

That’s what a Clay County Republican Party flier promoting a "2nd Amendment Day" in April asks all who pick it up.

County GOP Chairman Leslie Dougher says the party is reacting to growing concerns among its members that President Barack Obama may try to limit gun ownership, particularly handguns.

Not everyone thinks the idea of increasing gun ownership is a good idea. Any effort to put more guns on the street is wrong headed, says the head of the Clay County Democratic Party.

"There are too many guns," said Thomas Nazworth, Democratic Party chairman. "You’ve already got every right to defend yourself in your home. What is this going to be the wild, wild west where everybody has got sidearms? That is not answer." [link]

Haven't they tried the "wild west" argument in the past? Didn't really pan out for them though did it, considering there is usually a drop in violent crime in states that pass concealed carry laws. I do agree that is not a good idea to put "more guns on the street", they may get run over, you could mar the finish, scratch the wood, put them in contact with corrosive road flotsam and jetsam, etc...

Also, isn't it funny that a lot of gun owners are labeled as "bitter clingers". Yet Democrats have been "bitterly clinging" to this "wild west" argument for years.

Free Healthcare Anyone?

"In the past six years, eight people from Austin and one from Luling racked up 2,678 emergency room visits in Central Texas, costing hospitals, taxpayers and others $3 million, according to a report from a nonprofit made up of hospitals and other providers that care for the uninsured and low-income Central Texans. One of the nine spent more than a third of last year in the ER: 145 days. That same patient totaled 554 ER visits from 2003 through 2008." [link]

Yet you here calls for universal healthcare. Heads up, we have universal health care. We really do need reform in healthcare, but not the type the politicians want us to have. We need a way to keep those that abuse the system from having their bills payed by hardworking Americans that don't spend 145 days in the ER.
