Quote for the Day

"The arms we have been compelled by our enemies to assume we will, in defiance of every hazard, with unabating firmness and perseverance, employ for the preservation of our liberties; being with one mind resolved to die free rather than live slaves." – Thomas Jefferson

It Doesn't Always Have to be Big!

Sometimes lovers of freedom and liberty get caught up in our own ideas and forget the reason we love what we love. That being our own ability to think, say, do, act, etc... in any manner that we want to so long as we do not violate of infringe on the rights of others in our actions. A lot of times we look so much at the big picture we think we have to act in large world changing ways, when nothing could be further from the truth. Little bits here and there will eventually have the same (and almost always a more lasting) effect.

For example, the Commonwealth of Kentucky in its legislative brilliance has voted to raise alcohol and cigarette tax considerably. The legislature's and governor's reasoning "It will generate much needed revenue." When asked what is going to happen when, instead of generating revenue it causes people to cut back on, or give up smoking/drinking? Their answer, "It will allow us to stop spending so much on health care." However they neglect to point out that they way government does its bookkeeping these two things are not necessarily related to each other.

Okay, enough about some silly legislature, on to my point. I gave up smoking two years ago, so that was just that much more of my money the state is not going to get. My small protest now will be to learn the skill of home brewing. After I get my brewing kit set up and going, I will no longer be paying alcohol taxes, I will no longer purchase alcohol in the Commonwealth.

This may not make much of a difference with one person in the long run, but that is sort of the point of this post. Pass it along, think about ways you can "legally" subvert the system, start conversations with your friends about ways you can stop supplying government with your hard earned money, start taking responsibility for yourself and all of your actions.

Worse Than the REAL ID?

"Privacy advocates are issuing warnings about a new radio chip plan that ultimately could provide electronic identification for every adult in the U.S. and allow agents to compile attendance lists at anti-government rallies simply by walking through the assembly..."So if EDLs are the new direction for secure licenses in all states, it just reinforces what many have been telling me that DHS wants to expand this program and turn it into a wireless national ID with a different name," he said. "We'll wake up one day and without a vote in Congress DHS will just pass a rule and say something like 'starting next month you will need an EDL to fly on a plane, or to buy a gun, or whatever." [link]

I just love waking up everyday and hearing the new idea to start restricting my freedom's and liberty's. Don't you? This is a scary, scary idea. These types of "innocuous" ideas are more frightening than outright bans on freedoms. For one if you package something right you can get a lot of people to agree with you on whatever it is. Liberty and freedom are rarely lost in one fell swoop, but in small bits and pieces over time where only a few people notice.

More "Free" Government Money

"A revised bailout of American International Group may be just another "band-aid" solution, but more than five months after it was first rescued by the government the option of letting the insurer fail would still be considered too big a shock to already fragile global markets.
AIG's board on Sunday approved a broad revision of the U.S. government's $150 billion (105.6 billion pound) rescue. It was the third time the government has reached out to the struggling insurer and the latest rescue is expected to put greater funds at AIG's disposal to keep it afloat..."
[link]

What is actually being done and said in this "crisis" situation is equivalent to continue giving someone with a gambling addiction more money in hopes that they will eventually hit it big enough that their gambling problem vanishes. Sounds absolutely ludicrous doesn't it, but that is exactly what is being done.

I realize that there is a problem, but it is constantly being made worse by doom and gloom naysayers (Obama being at the top of this list). However if left to its own the market will stabilize. Their will be businesses that fail, but the business environment is like a forest, just because the ancient oak falls does not mean the rest of the forest is destroyed, but what will happen is the ancient oak will fertilize new trees and plants when it decomposes. In other words businesses that fail will open the door for new ones, that have better management strategies to step up.

Quote for the Day

"The right of self-defense is the first law of nature: in most governments it has been the study of rulers to confine this right within the narrowest limits possible. Wherever … the right of people to keep and bear arms is, under any color or pretext whatsoever, prohibited, liberty, if not already annihilated, is on the brink of destruction." -- George Tucker, American Revolutionary War veteran

More Good Thoughts on Freedom and Liberty

Kent's "Hooligan Libertarian" Blog

Just click on over there. This is a wonderful short post that breaths a bit of fresh air.

More Lies and Less Freedom

"Next, he made it clear that laying the groundwork for a strong economy down the road won't be free. Want to kick fossil fuels for a green future? How about reforming how we pay for health care, so we can get more for our dollars and reduce the ranks of the uninsured? Want to keep Medicare solvent? Get a bigger federal contribution for our schools? Repair and maintain roads, bridges, airports and mass transit? Build a modern energy grid?...And we can't just continue to borrow and spend and pass the bill to our kids...But by putting his ideas into budgetary black-and-white, Obama has challenged taxpayers to make realistic choices about what they want from government..." [link]

I would like to comment on a few things in this piece. First let's look at the first underlined part. He is correct there, what the Obama administration want's to do definitely won't be free. In fact it limits all kinds of freedom of choice. If I want to drive a vehicle that gets 2 MPG that is my business. Why the focus on mass transit? What the hell is it with mass transit and these people? There is not one single mass transit system in America that makes a profit, check for yourself.

I also particularly like the part about how we can't borrow and spend. What in the hell do you call the $787 billion dollar leviathan that was just signed into law?

Lastly, I will tell you exactly what I want from my government. To leave me the hell alone unless I infringe on the rights of others.

Tea Party's Taking Shape

"Critics of President Barack Obama's stimulus plan gathered beneath the Arch Friday to cheer speeches over a bullhorn and toss tea into the Mississippi River...leaders said they had stolen a page from liberal tradition by taking to the streets with homemade signs...got the idea after Rick Santelli, a CNBC market commentator in Chicago, last week called for a tea party to protest Obama's anti-recession plan. Santelli's comments became a YouTube hit, and similar "tea parties" were planned in other cities." [link]

Don't you just love freedom of speech. I wonder how long it will be before we start seeing someone start trying to enact legislation to make this type of protest illegal or highly regulated, not counting the so called "Fairness Doctrine". Also gotta love the way freedom lovers are starting to use tactics used by liberosociofascist for years against them.

The Problem With Concealed Carry Licenses

"A year after he was denied a license to carry a concealed weapon, Exeter resident Dan Garand is taking his case to the state Supreme Court. His hired gun is attorney Penny Dean, a Second Amendment specialist, NRA-certified shooting instructor, hunting safety instructor and graduate of the "Lethal Force Institute. If you can lawfully own a gun, you should be issued a license to carry," said Dean, who hopes to convince the state's highest court that appeals of gun license denials should be heard in superior courts." [link]

Here is my main beef with CCW, CCL, what have you. Of all the states that allow concealed carry only two are doing it correctly (based on the U.S. Constitution). Those would be Alaska and Vermont. In either state if you may "legally" own a firearm then you may automatically carry concealed, no paperwork, now forms, no fees, etc... In other words no infringement on rights. The rest of the states issue their licenses on a "shall issue" basis. This is the loophole part. There is nothing in there that forces whatever entity issues these licenses to issue anybody one, regardless of reason. I know that here in Kentucky you have to get your county sheriff to sign off on an approval for your license. He/she has the choice to either sign and grant your license or not. If they don't like you, your family, the way you look, etc... any reason whatsoever they don't have to issue your license.

Now don't get me wrong it is good that quite a few states are recognizing the right of law abiding citizens to be able to protect themselves in the best manner available to them. However, they should all look into Vermont/Alaska style concealed carry laws.

Eddie Eagle and Hoplophobia

"Showing that the depths of some individuals' hoplophobia know no bounds, CBS11TV.com (Dallas-Fort Worth) recently ran a story on a mother whose knee-jerk reaction against firearms was so overwhelming that even pictures of firearms in NRA's Eddie Eagle GunSafe Program's coloring book, sent her into a tizzy." [link]

No matter how many times I see these types of stories and people that think this way, it never ceases to amaze me.

Quote for the Day

In United States v. Cruikshank (1876), the first case in which the Court had an opportunity to interpret the Second Amendment, it stated that the right confirmed by the Second Amendment "is not a right granted by the constitution. Neither is it in any manner dependent upon that instrument for its existence."

Has the Time Come?

"Attorney General Eric Holder stated in a press conference today that Barack Obama’s administration will seek to reinstate the federal assault weapons ban that expired in 2004. Eric Holder was speaking at a news conference announcing a crackdown against a Mexican drug cartel in the United States." [link]

Looks like they're revving their engines now. Since Obama and his administration have discovered there is not enough resistance to stop them from doing whatever they please in Washington, they will do just that. WHATEVER THEY PLEASE. Regardless of what "We the People" think, say, or do. We are in for some dark times, and multiple struggles we must battle to the best of our ability in the coming years.

It was time to start joining liberty and freedom minded organizations years ago. Now is the time that Americans must make their voices heard above the grind of the gears of tyranny. Now is the time "We the People" must demand and make our government listen to our grievances. How about we take a look at a list of rights that have been violated over and over by our government for years now without much resistance:

Our government has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent swarms of Officers to harrass our people, including but not limited to the IRS, BATFE, Homeland Security, FEMA,
etc...
Our government has kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Armies (FBI, CIA, BATFE, multiple other government entities armed to the teeth) without the Consent of our legislatures.
Our government has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil power (once again see the list of all the government agencies that are better armed, trained, and definitely kept separate).
For Quartering large bodies of armed troops among us (once again see the above list): For protecting them, by a mock Trial, from punishment for any Murders which they should commit on the Inhabitants of these States (remember Ruby Ridge, Waco).
For depriving us in many cases, of the benefits of Trial by Jury: (Patriot Act ring a bell)
For taking away our Charters (The United States Constitution, individual state Constitutions, The Bill of Rights), abolishing our most valuable Laws, and altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments...

If any of these things sound very familiar they should for two reasons: 1)They are all happening or taking place right now, and 2) They are taken nearly word for word with some slight modifications added from The Declaration of Independence. When will enough be enough.

A Short Break?

For my readers out there,

I will be out of town for a few days. It might not be possible for me to post regularly like I have been doing so far. Never fear, I will return in a few days, and possibly I may even get a chance or two to post while I am away. If not you can about guarantee that I will be able to catch up on some reading and have plenty more ideas and information about our struggle for freedom and liberty in these times.

Quote for the Day

"The war against illegal plunder has been fought since the beginning of the world. But how is... legal plunder to be identified? Quite simply. See if the law takes from some persons what belongs to them, and gives it to other persons to whom it does not belong. See if the law benefits one citizen at the expense of another by doing what the citizen himself cannot do without committing a crime. Then abolish this law without delay... If such a law is not abolished immediately it will spread, multiply and develop into a system." -- Frederic Bastiat

Tea Party II

More from Rick Santelli.

In Response to Those That Argue Government=Safety

Excellent article here by fellow blogger Kent McManigal. This would especially be a good read for those of you that like to justify more government as a means for safety and security. I know that none of you read my blog or Kent's, but maybe you will have a caring friend that will email our links along with Kent's article to you.

How About We Call You On It, Mr Obama!

"If a federal agency proposes a project that will waste that money, I will not hesitate to call them out on it and put a stop to it," Obama told the mayors, who were gathered in the White House. "And I want everybody here to be on notice ... if a local government does the same. I will call them out on it and use the full power of my office and our administration to stop it." [link]

Wonderful rhetoric in this instance, let's sound tough, but not mean a damn thing about it. If you truly are going to call out federal agencies for wasting money how about actually taking a look at some of the measures in your so called "stimulus law":

$24 million for USDA buildings and rent
$176 million for renovating Agricultural Research Service buildings
$290 million for flood prevention activities
$50 million for watershed rehabilitation
$1.4 billion for wastewater disposal programs
$295 million for administrative expenses associated with food stamp program
$1 billion for the 2010 Census
$200 million for public computer centers at community colleges and libraries
$650 million for the DTV converter box coupon program
$360 million for construction of NIST buildings
$830 million for NOAA research and facilities
$2 billion for Byrne JAG program
$10 million to combat Mexican gunrunners
$125 million for rural communities to combat drug crimes
$1 billion for the COPS program
$1 billion for NASA
$300 million to purchase scientific instruments for colleges and museums
$400 million for equipment and facilities at the NSF
$3.7 billion to conduct "green" renovations on military bases
$375 million for Mississippi River projects
$10 million for urban canals
$5 billion for weatherizing buildings
$2 billion to develop advanced batteries for hybrid cars
$3.4 billion for fossil energy research (possibly including an earmark for FutureGen)
$5.1 billion for environmental cleanup around military bases
$5.5 billion for "green" federal buildings
$300 million for "green" cars for federal employees
$20 million for IT upgrades at the Small Business Administration
$200 million to design and furnish DHS headquarters
$98 million earmark for a polar icebreaker
$210 million for State and local fire stations
$125 million to restore trails and abandoned mines
$146 million for trail maintenance at National Park Service sites
$140 million for volcano monitoring systems
$600 million for the EPA Superfund environmental cleanup program
$200 million to clean up leaking underground storage tanks
$500 million for forest health and wildfire prevention
$25 million for the Smithsonian Institution
$50 million for the National Endowment for the Arts
$1.2 billion for "youth activities" (for "youth" up to 24 years old)

$1 billion for Head Start
$32 million for home-delivered nutrition services
$160 million for volunteer programs at the Corporation for National and Community Service
$500 million earmark for the SSA National Computer Center in MD
$220 million for the International Boundary and Water Commission, U.S. and Mexico
$8 billion for high-speed railway (including an earmark for Harry Reid's LA to Las Vegas MagLev)
$1.3 billion for Amtrak

Another Gun Control Ploy

It seems that if they can't exactly go after the firearms, then they will attempt to manipulate the system in any means necessary to make owning a firearm so expensive only a select few can own them. How about this:

"Kenneth Dunkin, a former social worker and Democrat member of the Illinois House of Representatives, has introduced HB0687, entitled the “Firearm Owners ID-Insurance” bill. It is currently in the Rules Committee.
Dunkin’s bill amends the Firearm Owners Identification Card Act, a previous bill aimed at chipping away at the Second Amendment. Dunkin’s amendment states “that any person who owns a firearm in this State shall maintain a policy of liability insurance in the amount of at least $1,000,000 specifically covering any damages resulting from negligent or willful acts involving the use of such firearm while it is owned by such person.” [link]

How about we start trying to get a bill that states "All elected officials must carry a liability insurance policy in the amount of at least $20 million lest they in any way, shape, or form try say or do anything that tries to limit, curtail, regulate, ban, eradicate, outlaw, etc... anything that has to do with personal freedom and responsibility. This policy will specifically cover any damages resulting from negligent or willful acts of using your powers as a representative of the people to try and remove their freedoms and/or your violation of any part of the United States Constitution. Such examples include, but are not limited too: stress (from having to put up with your stupidity in office) and any related conditions caused by stress, high blood pressure, headache, carpel tunnel syndrome (from having to write, type, stamp, etc... to you and urge you not to be an idiot, and/or post on forums to get the word out about your treachery), or any other damages real or imagined."

Now we just need to give this legislation a name.

Texas Joins Fight for State Sovereignty

We now have another state that has added its name to the list. Let's keep 'em rolling in. Here are several links where you can read about what Texas is doing to fight the federal government and it's overreaching unconstitutional powers: The exact document, and a snippet with comments. If you live in one of the many states that are declaring their sovereignty under the 9th and 10th Amendments wonderful. If not start writing, emailing, and calling your representatives.

Also, here is a link to all my blog posts about the fight for state sovereignty for those interested.

Quote for the Day

"There are those in America today who have come to depend absolutely on government for their security. And when government fails they seek to rectify that failure in the form of granting government more power. So, as government has failed to control crime and violence with the means given it by the Constitution, they seek to give it more power at the expense of the Constitution. But in doing so, in their willingness to give up their arms in the name of safety, they are really giving up their protection from what has always been the chief source of despotismgovernment. Lord Acton said 'power corrupts.' Surely then, if this is true, the more power we give the government the more corrupt it will become. And if we give it the power to confiscate our arms we also give up the ultimate means to combat that corrupt power. In doing so we can only assure that we will eventually be totally subject to it." -- Ronald Reagan
